Regeneration can be performed while driving the vehicle. This episode of Tech Talk discusses the proper driving conditions to allow your DPF to go through regeneration, as well as what you need to
My 2.2 started making clouds of smoke at the onset of the regen process when the car had been driven some 125,000 km's (80,000 miles). I'm confident that the 'smoke' was actually unburnt fuel, instead. Smoking stopped when I reset the dpf learned values. So I believe that ECU changed its regen strategy as it thought the filter was 'new'.

This combined with short journeys and occasional low fuel levels would be enough to cause the problems, but the differential pressure sensor was also flatlined. The DPF stats showed: – 875km average distance between regeneration – 683km since last successful regeneration – 128km since last attempt (unsuccessful)
I would say that the dpf is most likely to be fine at the moment, although possibly filling up. The "exhaust not hot enough for a regen" suggests the vaporiser may not be working (it injects diesel in to the exhaust to raise the temps to over 600C). Despite your high mileage, this can still become blocked with carbon build up.
. Hello. Have had the Mondeo mk4 2.2 tdci 200 hp for 3 years. Since the beginning it regenerates at a maximum of 150km. I printed the system, installed a new MAF, new lambda probe, cleaned the DPF and made a new dds (original), new vaporizer, injectors return quantity test but the problem still exists and there is also the fact that the DPF sometimes cleans worse, ie the bdpf soot value
The garage fitted the new vapouriser (I imagine by taking off the exhaust) which was 2 hours labour, and then did a static regen (0.75 hrs labour). I was concerned the car would refuse to do a static regen with soo much soot, but it was fine. On picking up the car the DPF pressure at idle was 0.0kpa and at 2,000 rpm it was 1kpa. 28% loaded.
Ford Mondeo - dpf removal - Collos25 : Not so simple as that the ECU looks for regeneration and the presence of the DPF when it cannot do this it puts the car into limp home mode hence the rewriting of the programme to remove the DPF .Its no big deal if you wanted to remove it yourself you will need a replacement downpipe to replace the gap removing the DPF leaves easily sourced then take the
It's not about regen itself. As those are fine. But I'm thinking the exhaust/engine is not getting up to enough temp on my usual runs. As it's steady 80-100km/h driving for 30 min, and a pause in between, so 15 mins of engine on.
I had another mondeo previously with the same engine and way able to easily get 45mpg on the motorway. I plugged diagnostics in and went another drive down the motorway looking at dpf spot levels and whether the vapouriser was on indicating regens. The car seems to do a regen when the spot levels get to around 75-80%.
